At Wildwood, summer is more than a break from school, it’s a season of growth, independence, and pure joy. Located just outside Kansas City on 150 acres of forest, lake, and adventure-ready outdoor space. Wildwood is where kids ages 7–17 unplug from screens, connect with nature, and discover what they’re capable of.
Every day at Wildwood is filled with hands-on outdoor fun. Campers might start their morning paddling across the lake in a canoe or kayak. Others spend time at the archery range, practice fishing off the dock, splash and swim in the pool, or climb to the top of Wildwood’s rock wall.
Campers try zip-lining, make tie-dye shirts, cook snacks over a campfire, hike the trails, or learn how to build a campfire safely. It’s classic camp at its best. Active, unplugged, and full of discovery.
But Wildwood is more than a checklist of activities. It’s an intentional community built around belonging, wellness, and transformation. Kids who may be shy at first quickly find their place. Cabin groups are small, counselors are supportive and trained, and activities are designed to help campers make friends, build communication skills, and try new things at their own pace. Without phones or screens, kids reconnect with the world around them and with themselves.
Wildwood proudly serves a wonderfully diverse group of Kansas City youth. Each summer, campers come from urban neighborhoods, rural towns, and suburbs across five counties. About 75% of Wildwood campers receive some level of financial assistance, ensuring that camp is accessible to every family who wants their child to attend. We also provide free bus transportation from convenient metro-area locations, making it easier for parents to get their kids to camp.
For teens, Wildwood offers Leadership Camp and Camp Apprenticeships, programs that build job readiness and leadership skills through hands-on experiences, mentorship, and real responsibility. These programs help teens prepare for employment, college, and adulthood while still enjoying the fun of camp.
Safety is our top priority. Wildwood is accredited by the American Camp Association and follows more than 300 strict program and safety standards. Our staff are trained, supported by mental health professionals, and committed to creating a safe, inclusive environment where every child can thrive.
